Frequently Asked Questions
How can I make a surfskate session booking at Lost Shore Surf Resort?
The booking system for sessions at Lost Shore Surf Resort is underway. Please check the website and socials for updates.
- What is Surfskating?
It’s dry land surfing! You can learn it as a standalone sport or you can use it alongside surfing to improve your performance in the water.
- I don’t have any equipment/board, can I borrow everything?
Surfskates and helmets are always provided. If you want you can bring your own knee, elbow and wrist pads. The Surfskate Academy has a large stock of YOW surfskates. You can also take advantage of your session to test drive of all the YOW models and get to know what type of board and wheelbase you like the most.
- How do I know which class to choose?
Group classes will be separated by experience level: "Beginners" "Intermediate" and "Advanced". Sessions will be organised by age and skill level where appropriate. The designated slots for beginners, intermediates and advanced can be found on the website.
- Are surfskate sessions a good way to improve surfing?
Training on land is key to improving your surfing. You can spend hours in the water repeating the same mistakes without realizing it. This can create bad surfing habits and cause frustration as you will feel like you are not making any real progress. The Surfskate Academy’s training method corrects technique and builds muscle memory so that you can apply your new skills next time you are in the water.
- Why is Surfskate training beneficial?
At The Surfskate Academy you will learn a training method that is based on the repetition and automation of all the movements necessary to make good progression in your surfing. A session of surfskate training with a Surfskate Coach is equivalent to dozens of hours of surfing in the water meaning you get a head-start on concrete before hitting the waves.
- What are the benefits of surfskate sessions?
A huge benefit is that it helps you understand the basic principles of correct technique so that if you move from land to water, you can correct yourself accordingly after each wave. You can also train with your surfskate whenever you have free time (no waves required!). It’s good fun and gives you the feeling of surfing on asphalt.
